Sketchbook Entry 3/2/11

Please select one or more of the following photos, and create a spread in your sketchbook inspired by it. You could tell a story from the photo, use the color palette, transform it-- use your imagination!

Sketchbook Entry Prompt for Feb 16

1. Travel advertisement for a fake country.

2. Transform your Spread into a paper cut (this is our next unit) as seen here: subject matter= still life or portrait. Leave papers attached to sketchbook.

Sketchbook Entry Prompt for Feb 5

1. Winter, snow, ice. Draw the winter landscape around you.
Add cut-outs from a magazine, newspaper, or photo -OR- add pop-up elements for 3-dimensional effects.

2. Record a recent dream. Include text describing the dream.

Sketchbook Entry Prompt for Jan 18

1. Pick a random material that you would NOT normally use to draw or paint with. Make marks in your sketchbook with the selected material. Once you are finished or it has dried, look at the spread and create a representational (non abstract) composition.

2. Select a shape and repeat it, covering your entire spread. In an opposite direction, pick a word, repeat it, covering the spread. Use paint to block out a shape. Once that has dried, cut out shapes from the painted area and the non painted areas. Look at the abstract shapes and draw an representational (non-abstract) with it.

3. Go to a museum. I will be at AVAM Saturday 1/8 until 12:30 if you would like to join. Sketch a room in the museum on your spread. Write your observations on top of your drawing.

4. Go into a public interior space (mall, grocery store, library, etc). Sketch a room in that space on your spread. Write your observations on top of your drawing.

The next studio night will actually be after school Monday January 10, 2:10-3:30. This should be enough time to photograph artworks, but have your portfolios ready to go!!!

Everyone is invited to participate in the GT Seminars at Howard High Tuesday and Thursday 6-8pm.

Sketchbook Entry Prompt for Jan 5

1. Divide your spread into 8 windows (any size, any shape). Devote a window to each day of winter break.
2. Illustrate Christmas morning and the presents you would get if you lived on Mars in the year 3010.
3. Your winter break is a movie. Design a promotional poster for it on your spread.
